Malaysia Airlines continues collaboration as FAM official airline partner
Petaling Jaya, 29 August 2020: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will aim to fly higher in partnership with its official airline partner, Malaysia Airlines Berhad, following the extension of their collaboration for another three years.
The national airline signed an extended partnership agreement for 2021 until 2023, following the original two-year arrangement that will expire on 31 December 2020.
The signing ceremony was held at the Hilton, Petaling Jaya earlier today between FAM General Secretary, Stuart Ramalingam and the Group Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer, Malaysia Airlines Berhad, Lau Yin May.
It was witnessed jointly by the FAM President, Yang Berbahagia Datuk Haji Hamidin Haji Mohd Amin and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysia Aviation Group, & Chief Executive Officer, Malaysia Airlines Berhad, Captain Izham Ismail.
According to Datuk Haji Hamidin, the extension of the partnership reflected the excellent relationship between both parties despite the adverse effects COVID-19 pandemic had on various activities and plans lined-up for 2020.
“We are extremely grateful to Malaysia Airlines for this extension and for their never-ending support since 2019.
The collaboration between FAM and Malaysia Airline is symbolic as we represent the national brand synonymous with Malaysia.”
Captain Izham Ismail said, “We are excited to continue the next chapter in this partnership between the national football squad and the national carrier.
Teamwork is the key to any successful venture and we believe that the discipline of our national squad Harimau Malaya and the spirit of Malaysian Hospitality go hand in hand in showcasing our joint commitment to bring Malaysia to greater heights on the world stage, regardless of race, age and gender.
With Hari Kebangsaan just around the corner, now is the perfect time for Malaysia Airlines and FAM to take to the field together and proudly ‘Fly Malaysia’ across the globe as the nation’s flag bearers.”
“We carry a similar role in carrying a national identity which embraces unity. Like Malaysia Airlines, FAM and the national football team are the Malaysian flagbearers in the eyes of the world,” added Datuk Haji Hamidin.
The initial collaboration between the two parties began when Malaysia Airlines sponsored the flight of Tan Cheng Hoe’s Harimau Malaya during the Second Leg of the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup Final in Hanoi, Vietnam on 15th December 2018.
It was followed by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Datuk Haji Hamidin and Captain Izham at Wisma FAM, Kelana Jaya on 21st March 2019 for Malaysia Airlines to be the official airline partner for Harimau Malaya for two years.
