Malaysia Airlines Ferries More than 1,000 Students Home for Hari Raya

 

 

KLIA, 11 May 2021: Following recent announcement by the National Security Council (NSC) to allow students from higher learning institutions to return home during Hari Raya this year, Malaysia Airlines has been working closely with universities, the Ministry of Education (MOE), Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to facilitate students' movement via air transportation.

 

Last week the airline operated a special charter flight using the Boeing 737-800 to ferry 160 students from Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Langkawi, home to their loved ones.

 

From 11 until 13 May 2021, Malaysia Airlines will ferry over 1,000 students via charter and commercial flights focusing on East Malaysia routes between Kuala Lumpur Kota Kinabalu and Kuching, Labuan - Bintulu, Labuan - Kuching, Labuan - Miri as well as Labuan - Sibu return. Additionally, the airline will also be operating full capacity from Kuala Lumpur to three cities in Sarawak, namely Sibu, Miri and Bintulu, between 12 to 13 May 2021.

 

Group Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Airlines Captain Izham Ismail said, “Aidilfitri is a time where families reunite and this year, with the challenges of the pandemic, we worked closely with the relevant authorities to ensure safe and secure travel for these students, some of who have not been home for more than a year. This latest series of flights reflect the national airline's significant role in providing critical air connectivity throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to support various humanitarian and medical missions. The airline continues to mount flights subject to approval by relevant authorities with strict adherence to safety and health SOPs to ensure the wellbeing and comfort of all passengers.”
