Malaysia Airlines and China Southern Airlines Launch Codeshare Flights Beginning 6 July 2023

KLIA, 6 July 2023 – Malaysia Airlines and China Southern Airlines are pleased to announce the launch of codeshare flights between the two carriers, offering travellers with seamless connections and enhanced travel options beginning 6 July 2023. With this partnership, passengers will enjoy convenient flight frequencies for travel between the airlines’ main hubs in KLIA Terminal 1 (KUL) and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN), as the airlines will be placing their respective flight codes – “MH” for Malaysia Airlines and “CZ” for China Southern Airlines – on these routes. Whether travelling for business or leisure, the codeshare agreement aims to offer enhanced connectivity and flexibility for passengers of both airlines. The two carriers will also look to expand and leverage each other’s core network, to explore more cooperation possibilities and expand the depth and breadth of cooperation. Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, Chief Executive Officer of Airlines at Malaysia Aviation Group, said, “We are delighted to begin our codeshare partnership with China Southern Airlines (CZ), a collaboration that will significantly boost our presence in one of the key destinations in Malaysia Airlines' network, China, following the reopening of borders. Since April 2023, we have resumed all our services to China, including to Guangzhou, Xiamen, Beijing and Shanghai, and we look forward to growing our presence, including within Domestic China, by expanding our codeshare partnership with CZ and extending our signature Malaysian Hospitality service to their passengers.” Mr. Zhang Dongsheng, Deputy Director General of the Commercial Steering Committee and Senior Vice President of the Marketing Department of China Southern Airlines, said, “Under the framework of the "Belt and Road", China Southern Airlines will continue to use its network advantages, explore new opportunities, deepen new cooperation, adhere to the implementation of customer-centric, and help high-quality development. The codeshare cooperation with Malaysia Airlines on the Guangzhou-Kuala Lumpur route is a beneficial exploration, and the two sides will further expand the scope of cooperation to Beijing Daxing - Kuala Lumpur and other China-Malaysia routes, and continue to bring more products and better services to business travelers, Chinese visiting relatives, and tourists and leisure guests in the Chinese and Malaysian markets.” Malaysia Airlines currently operates three times weekly flights between KUL and CAN, operated by the A330-200 aircraft with 19 Business Class seats, 42 Economy Class seats with extra legroom, and 226 Economy Class seats. Whereas, China Southern Airlines currently operates flights from CAN to KUL 21 times weekly onboard its A320 and B787-9 aircraft. The A320 is equipped with eight Business Class seats and 144 Economy Class seats, while the B787-9 is equipped with a total of 28 advanced Business Class seats and other comfortable Economy Class seats.
