Travel Advisory related to Nationwide Movement Restriction Order by the Malaysian Government

Following the enactment of the Nationwide Movement Restriction Order by the Malaysian Government on 16 March 2020, we would like to update the public whose travel plans may be affected.

  • Effective 18 to 31 March 2020, Malaysians are not allowed to leave the country, with those abroad allowed to return, subject to medical screenings upon arrival and self-quarantine for 14 days.
  • Foreigners* are allowed to leave Malaysia but not allowed to enter.
  • Passengers on transit are allowed to proceed to their onward destinations (subject to current protocols).
  • Domestic air travel is restricted only from airports within Peninsular Malaysia. Crossings between Kuala Lumpur to/from Sabah and Sarawak are only allowed for those already in these states who wish to return to their home base. There will be no interruption to MASwings operations within Sabah and Sarawak at this time.

Malaysia Airlines will continue to operate to facilitate essential travel however, flight schedule is subject to change.

Guests with bookings for travel within the Order period but wish to travel immediately, may proceed to the airport for immediate re-booking subject to availability.

Guests with flight departures of more than 48 hours are strongly urged to submit your change request online, via the Flight Waiver Request Form at https://www.malaysiaairlines.com/us/en/waiver-request.html.

This helps to ease congestion at our Global Contact Centre which currently has long waiting time and allows us to prioritise customers booked on immediate flights.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
