Izham bin Ismail is an Executive Director of Malaysia Airlines Berhad. He currently holds the position of Group Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysia Aviation Group and Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Airlines Berhad. He has 38 years of experience in the aviation industry, having started his career with Malaysia Airlines as a pilot in 1979.
Appointed to a management position just 10 years after joining Malaysia Airlines, Izham moved up the ranks over the years and has held various management positions such as Executive Vice President of Flight Operations, Director of Operations and Chief Operations Officer (COO) of Malaysia Airlines. Izham also served as CEO of MASwings, Malaysia Airlines’ sister company in Sabah and Sarawak, between July and November 2016.
Apart from his extensive aviation experience, Izham has also served as a Board member of Hamilton Sunstrand Malaysia and GE Engine Services Malaysia. He currently serves as a Board member of several companies under the umbrella of the Malaysia Aviation Group such as; MASAwana, MASKargo, MAB Academy and MAS Aeroclean.
As a pilot, Izham broke world aviation records when he flew Malaysia Airlines’ first Boeing 777-200 eastward from Seattle to Kuala Lumpur and back. The flight set new world records for longest flight and fastest round-the-world flight by a commercial airliner, with a total flight time of 41 hours 59 minutes over a distance of 23,310 miles.
Hui Yee was appointed Group Chief Financial Officer (GCFO) of Malaysia Airlines Berhad in charge of effective risk management and strategic financial planning of the Malaysia Aviation Group of companies in May 2018. She holds a professional accounting qualification (ACCA) with more than 25 years’ experience across the various disciplines in finance.
She has been with Malaysia Airlines for over 13 years, holding various positions in the Finance department. This included successfully implementing various systems and improvement initiatives. She spent 1 year as one of the Track Leads in the MAS Restructuring Office, leading and supporting the MAS transition to the new airline. Prior to her promotion to GCFO, she led the Planning and Performance Management department in Malaysia Airlines overseeing the group’s planning, tax planning & compliance, management reporting and statutory reporting.
Prior to joining Malaysia Airlines, Hui Yee was with Vsource Ltd, a BPO company, as a Senior Solution Manager. She also spent 14 years in Singapore, working in various accounting and finance roles in various industries.
Ahmad Luqman was appointed Group Chief Operations Officer (GCOO) of Malaysia Airlines Berhad overseeing Operations and Engineering for the Malaysia Aviation Group of companies in February 2018. He is an internally grown talent who started his career with Malaysia Airlines as a management trainee over 20 years ago.
Prior to his appointment as GCOO, Luqman was CEO of MAB Kargo, the cargo subsidiary of MAG, a role he held since Sept 2015.
Under his tenure, MAB Kargo saw an 18% growth in business volume through freighter network realignment and strategic partnerships. Luqman led a transformation programme for MAB Kargo that further strengthened the financial performance, air cargo service delivery and retaining its position as the leading air cargo carrier in Malaysia. MAB Kargo also embarked on a digital transformation journey under Luqman’s leadership to capitalize on the growth of e-Commerce business in the region.
Luqman holds a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Syracuse University. He also completed the Business Leader Development Programme from the University of Oxford in 2016. He excels in data analytical skills, strategy formation and implementation and is a team leader with strong sense of ownership.
Ignatius Ong was appointed Group Chief Revenue Officer (GCRO) of Malaysia Airlines Berhad, overseeing Sales and Revenue Management for the Malaysia Aviation Group of companies, in July 2018.
Prior to his appointment as Group CRO, Ignatius was CEO of Firefly from 2011 to 2018.
He brings with him over 15 years of professional experience in the aviation industry giving him a wide breadth and depth of knowledge of the group. He joined Malaysia Airlines in 2004 and is no stranger to revenue management having served in various roles across revenue and route management. This included managing the whole portfolio of Sales, Distribution and Marketing under the Project Management Department.
He also served as the Regional Head for Australia, New Zealand and the Southwest Pacific looking after the sales and marketing for the entire region from 2010 until 2011. Under Ignatius’ stewardship the region outperformed all other markets in terms of sales.
Before joining Malaysia Airlines, Ignatius was a Senior Consultant with Accenture (previously known as Anderson Consulting), specializing in the Financial Services sector. At Accenture, he led several projects including several mergers and consolidations of banks in Malaysia.
Ignatius graduated with a First Class Honours in Bachelor of Arts in Accounting & Finance from Middlesex University, London.
Mohd Azharuddin was appointed Group Chief Transformation Officer (GCTO) of Malaysia Airlines Berhad overseeing all transformation projects across the Malaysia Aviation Group of companies in January 2019.
This is a new division, aimed at propelling the Group forward at speed and instilling a new culture of delivery.
Azhar was previously the Chief Executive Officer of the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) where he was responsible on matters of policy, planning, development and enforcing public transport laws. Whilst there he successfully developed a policy framework to recognize and regulate tech companies, such as e-hailing, as well as oversaw an improved bus service which saw reliable and more punctual bus services in KL and in various state cities.
Azhar also spent time with several MNCs which included Shell International, where he spent 17 years, both in Malaysia and England, Microsoft and Khazanah Nasional.
Dato’ Khalis was appointed the Group Chief Human Capital Officer (GCHCO) of Malaysia Airlines Berhad overseeing the human capital management of the Malaysia Aviation Group of companies in January 2018.
He has extensive exposure in human capital management, having served in several multinational companies and a large GLC for over 27 years in the field of human resource management across different industries. Dato’ Khalis has been involved in various disciplines of the profession, from organisational development and change management to performance management, industrial relations, HR reengineering as well as talent development. Prior to joining Malaysia Airlines, Dato’ Khalis was the Chief Human Capital Officer of Telekom Malaysia Berhad.
Dato’ Khalis received the Contribution to HR Community Award at the Asia HRD Congress in 2008. He was awarded Chief Human Resource Officer of the Year and the HR Leadership Award at the 21st Global HR Excellence Awards in February 2013. He was also given the recognition of being included in the 100 Most Influential Global HR Professionals at the World HRD Congress in February 2017.
He holds a Masters in Human Resource Management from the University of Canberra, Australia and a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Applied Psychology from Coventry University, in the United Kingdom. Dato' Khalis is a Certified Advance Human Resource Professional (CAHRP) from the Malaysian Institute of Human Resource Management and is a Certified Business and Executive Coach from the University of Malaya Centre for Continuing Education (UMCCed). He is also an alumnus of IMD, Switzerland.
Lau Yin May was appointed the Group Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer (GCMCEO) of Malaysia Airlines Berhad overseeing this newly streamlined division in the Malaysia Aviation Group of companies in April 2019.
Yin May joined Malaysia Airlines in May 2018 as Head of Customer Experience bringing with her more than 17 years of leadership and management expertise in business strategy, management consulting, commercial, marketing communications and operations in diversified industries.
Yin May is no stranger to the Group having joined the airline in 2004, focusing on project management and turnaround initiatives. She was also part of the pioneer team that setup the new airline, Firefly, and also oversaw the setup the airline’s travel arm, Firefly Holidays.
An accountant by education, Yin May holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business, majoring in Accounting, from Monash University. She started her career as a management consultant with Accenture, focusing in Financial Services with key projects that included Mergers and Acquisitions, Business Process Reengineering and Corporate Restructuring. She has also held portfolios in the advertising, marketing and communications field with GroupM, and few other industries to include hospitality, education, property development and retail before joining Malaysia Airlines.
Nik Azli was appointed the Group Chief Corporate Services Officer (GCCSO) of Malaysia Airlines Berhad overseeing and managing Legal, Corporate Secretarial, Business Integrity, Enterprise Risk Management, Internal Audit, Investigation Unit and Property for the Malaysia Aviation Group of companies in December 2018. Nik joined Malaysia Airlines in November 2015 as Executive Counsel, managing eight departments of the Executive Counsel Division.
Nik has over 20 years of experience in legal and management. Prior to his appointment at Malaysia Airlines, Nik was the General Counsel for SapuraKencana Petroleum Berhad. He was formerly Head of Legal in Sime Darby, Energy & Utilities Division and a partner in the law firm of Zul Rafique and Partners and Senior Associate in the law firm of ZICoLaw.
Nik has vast experience in leading various mergers, acquisitions and joint venture transactions including the merger of SapuraCrest Petroleum & Kencana Petroleum into SapuraKencana Petroleum Berhad, the biggest oil and gas merger in Malaysian corporate history. He has worked on big corporate funding exercises including club-deal financing involving 13 local and foreign banks/financiers and project financing deals. He has advised on cross border projects and transactions in Indonesia, Vietnam, China, UAE, Nigeria, Laos, Thailand and Singapore. He received the Energy and Resources In-House Legal Team Award at the prestigious ALB Malaysia Law Awards 2015.
Nik holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours), University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom.
Mohd Nadziruddin was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of AeroDarat Services Sdn Bhd, the ground handling arm of Malaysia Aviation Group, in September 2015.
Nadzir brings with him over 20 years of experience in airline operations, investment and finance. In his new position, Nadzir will focus on enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of ground handling services provided to our new airline’s passengers and aircraft, as well as to third party airlines.
Nadzir has been with the airline since late 2013 where he held the position of Chief Financial Officer until being appointed to lead the Restructuring Management Office as Chief Restructuring Officer in late 2014. Prior to this, Nadzir had also served the airline for 6 years as General Manager, Project Management and Assurance (2001-2004) and Senior General Manager, Airport Operations (2005-2007).
Between 2007-2013, Nadzir was at Khazanah, holding various portfolios including as its Chief Financial Officer (2007-2010) and as Managing Director of Khazanah’s subsidiary, Destination Resorts and Hotels (2011-2013).
Nadzir holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics, and is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA). He started his career in Arthur Andersen, later known as Ernst & Young.
Aminuddin was appointed the CEO of MASwings, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), in November 2016.
He has close to 30 years of professional experience in maintenance, engineering design, six sigma, customer product operations and management.
Aminuddin holds a degree in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering from Universiti Technology Malaysia and UKCAA License Aircraft Engineer Aircraft and Engine. He began his career at Malaysia Airlines as Trainee, Aircraft Maintenance and spent the next 12 years performing a variety of roles in Malaysia Airlines as Technical Services Engineer and Project Engineer including Accountable Manager for DCA Part 145 and Part 21 before moving to GE Aviation for the next 14 years as GE technical representative, Six Sigma BlackBelt and with his last position as Regional Sales Director for Asia Pacific region. He re-joined Malaysia Airlines in 2012 as Senior Vice President of Airline Engineering and was appointed as the Head, Technical Operations in September 2015.
He was honoured as the Royal Alumni of University Technology Malaysia, Adjunct Professor for Mechanical Faculty Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Adjunct Professor for Azman Hashim International Business School Universiti Technology Malaysia and completed Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2018.
Ibrahim was appointed the CEO of MAB Kargo, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), in September 2018.
Ibrahim, who previously served the company as Head of Cargo Operations and Corporate Services Senior Vice President, has over 20 years of experience in various fields within Cargo Handling. He was also General Manager of Corporate Safety for Malaysia Airlines from 2015 to 2016.
His last position was Chief Operating Officer of PT Jasa Angkasa Semesta (a subsidiary of SATS Limited, Singapore).
Ibrahim holds a Degree in Estate Management from Oxford Polytechnic and a Certificate in Accident Investigations from Cranfield University.
Kamarudin was appointed CEO of MAB Academy, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), in October 2017.
Kamarudin is responsible for leading the development and implementation of all learning and development programmes, positioning the Academy as a leading place of learning for the regional aviation industry.
Kamarudin brings a wealth of experience and wisdom to his role with his extensive flying, instructing, and strategic management expertise. He started his career with Malaysia Airlines 40 years ago as a pilot and has held various leadership positions such as Chief Pilot-Training, Senior Vice President Flight Operations - Quality, Technical and Training, Head of Flight Operations and Head of Training, School of Flight Operations, Malaysia Airlines Academy.
As a key figure in MAB Academy since 2016, Kamarudin has played a significant role in bringing both a positive and proactive approach to managing training and development. The MAB Academy, under the leadership of Kamarudin, will continue to focus on improving and enhancing employee development and growth as the Group moves towards becoming a more robust and sustainable organisation.
Hazman was appointed CEO of AMAL by Malaysia Airlines, a pilgrim-centric service dedicated for Hajj and Umrah wholly owned by the Malaysia Aviation Group in Oct 2018.
Prior to Amal, Hazman was with Khazanah Nasional Berhad where he served in various roles including Senior Vice President of Khazanah Europe Investment Limited based in London. Prior to that, he was the Vice President of Khazanah Turkey Regional Office based in Istanbul, pursuant to his stint as the Special Officer to former CEO of Khazanah.
Hazman has a wide range of experience across various sectors in private equity and venture capital investments with a focus on strategy, deal negotiation, deal execution and value creation planning.
Prior to Khazanah, Hazman had a short stint with British Telecom Plc and the GSM Association based in Milton Keynes and London - United Kingdom, respectively.
Hazman holds an MEng (1st Class Honours) in Engineering, Economics and Management from Balliol College, University of Oxford as well as an MSc in Operational Research from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Philip was appointed CEO of Firefly, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), in January 2019.
Prior to that Philip was formerly the Head of Strategy and Network for Malaysia Airlines. He joined the airline in 2015 from consulting firm McKinsey & Company where he was an associate. He is however, no stranger to the Group having previously served in the Turnaround Management Office (TMO), back in 2004. Under TMO he was responsible for implementing the Business Turnaround Plan and consequently the Business Transformation Plan. Philip left the airline in 2010 and rejoined Malaysia Airlines in 2015 as a Network Planner.
Before joining Malaysia Airlines in 2004, Philip was with Deutsche Bank as a Financial Analyst in the London office, looking at equity and mergers and acquisition (M&A) markets in the Asia Pacific region. He was also a consultant with Arthur D. Little, before joining the airline.
Philip holds a 1st Class Honours degree in Chemical Engineering (MEng) from Imperial College London, UK. With his experience across the different disciplines within finance, strategy and network both in Malaysia and abroad, Philip understands the complexities of the business and will bring to Firefly a wide breadth of knowledge.
