Fragile items

Fragile Items Fragile or perishable objects, cash, jewellery, precious metals, electronics, silver, negotiable documents, business paperwork, passports, and other identifying documents or samples are not permitted in checked baggage.

We do accept fragile objects if they are packed and padded in factory-sealed shipping boxes designed to hold the item under inspection, cardboard tubes for sending letters, carrying cases or shipping containers made specifically for this purpose. A release form must be signed in order for fragile objects to be accepted without the proper packing. We also reserve the right to deny acceptance of any fragile items at our discretion. Delay in delivery of certain types of checked luggage may occur due to the unsuitability of such items as checked baggage and/or the inadequacy of their packing which may put them at risk of damage.

Items prohibited in checked and cabin baggage

Compressed gases, corrosives, poisons, flammable liquids, mercury, deadly weapons, acids, oxidiszing or explosive materials, radioactive materials, magnet materials, and undeclared ammunition are not permitted as checked or carry-on baggage on board an aircraft. Firearms and ammunition must be accepted under security handling as per airport authority regulations. Perishables are accepted subject to the state of release. Some examples of perishables are: Fresh or frozen foodstuffs such as fruits, vegetables, meats, poultry, bakery products, and dairy products. Floral and nursery stock such as flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Cut flowers and foliage such as floral displays. Seafood, despite being in the perishables category, is not permitted to be checked in because spillage or leakage from the seafood pack can cause corrosion damage to the structure of the aircraft, resulting in additional maintenance work and cost to Malaysia Airlines. Seafood can only be transported as cabin baggage. Weapons such as novelty or antique firearms, swords, knives, and similar items may be accepted as checked baggage as per Malaysia Airlines regulations but will not be permitted in the cabin.

Carriage of self-heating meals or ready-to-eat meals on board Malaysia Airlines flights Due to safety concerns, any form of self-heating meals or ready-to-eat meals carried in checked or cabin baggage by passengers or crew are now prohibited on all Malaysia Airlines flights. Self-heating meals or ready-to-eat meals include heat packs or self-heating packs such as quick and easy hot pot, rice, and drinks. These packs contain dangerous substances such as magnesium powder, iron powder, self-burning solid carbon, or corrosive calcium oxide that emit flammable gas on contact with water.

Battery-powered wheelchair and mobility aid

There are three types of batteries used with wheelchairs or mobility aid devices:

Dry battery (including integrated battery) Gel-type battery Wet (sealed, non-spillable) battery

Wet battery

Lithium-ion battery (also abbreviated to Li-ion or LiPo battery)

Battery-powered portable electronic smoking devices

Battery-powered portable electronic smoking devices Battery-powered portable electronic smoking devices are not allowed to be checked in. They are also not permitted as carry-on items unless: - They’re for personal use only - Spare batteries are individually protected by being placed in their original retail packaging or by insulating the terminals. - Each battery: Does not exceed a lithium content of 2 grams for lithium metal batteries. Does not exceed a Watt-hour rating of 100 Wh for lithium-ion batteries. Meets the requirements of each test in the UN Manual of Test and Criteria, Part III sub-section 38.3.
