Bangkok

Bangkok is a mecca for shopping, sight-seeing and dining on savoury dishes; you are guaranteed to keep coming back for more.

Jaw dropping architecture along the Chao Phraya River

The Grand Palace takes architecture and intricate detailing to the next level.  Within the Palace complex is Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha), regarded as the most important Buddhist Temple in Thailand. The Emerald Buddha is meticulously carved out of a single piece of jade. Just behind it is Wat Pho: this gold, 46-metre long reclining Buddha is a must-see attraction for any first timer in Bangkok. A short ferry ride across the river takes you to Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn). The sunset here is simply majestic.

Dining at the Floating Markets

Dine with a difference at one of the many floating markets around Bangkok. Haggling over some star fruit from your sampan (boat) is a totally unique experience. Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market is 30 minutes from the centre of Bangkok, situated in a lush, green part of the city. Dockside, you can get grilled salt-bake fish and spicy garlic prawns. Khlong Lat Mayom provides longtail boat tours to see a traditional village homestays.

Shop till you drop

Bangkok offers a wide-ranging choice of shopping experiences. For traditional mall encounters, head over to the legendary MBK with over 2000 shops selling everything from clothing and handbags to furniture and appliances – all at a reasonable price. For a more upscale experience, then the Siam Paragon is filled with designer shops such as Louis Vuitton, Prada and Versace. For haggling and bartering, nothing beats the 8000 market stalls spread over 35 acres at Chatuchak Weekend Market. If you can’t find it here, they don’t sell it in Bangkok!
