Special Baggage

Special baggage

Bulky and oversized baggage Any bag that has linear dimensions (length + height + width) larger than 158cm or 62in, or weighs over 32kg or 70lb is considered oversized and may be subject to a surcharge. You may consult MASKargo or a similar logistics service provider for assistance with even larger pieces of baggage that have linear dimensions greater than 204cm or 80in.

There is a maximum single-item weight for checked baggage based on local health and safety laws & regulations and other relevant baggage restrictions. For some types of special baggage, reservations are required. While we do our best to avoid it, Malaysia Airlines may also deny acceptance of certain pieces of baggage if necessary.

Items that are unsuitable for loading in the aeroplane hold are referred to as Cabin Seat Baggage. Such items include musical instruments, artwork, electronic devices, and diplomatic or other valuable items.  Musical instruments  For our musically gifted passengers, here are our recommendations for ensuring your instruments travel with you safely:  Small instruments such as flutes, saxophones or violins can be brought onboard as cabin baggage.  Large, delicate instruments like cellos, pianos, guitars or accordions may be carried in the cabin - taking up an additional purchased seat.  For large but more durable instruments such as a trombone or double bass, we recommend carrying them as checked baggage.
