Malaysia Aviation Group and the Malaysian Football League Team Up to Champion Homegrown Sporting Talent

A partnership that unites Malaysians through sport, culture, and seamless connectivity

KLIA, 2 March 2022: Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) and the Malaysian Football League (MFL) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), naming the flag carrier, Malaysia Airlines as MFL’s official airline partner. This collaboration signifies Malaysia Airlines’ commitment to creating a sense of collective national identity and unity through the country’s number one sport.

Through this partnership, Malaysia Airlines will provide safe and seamless air travel for the delegates competing in domestic professional tournaments under MFL, including Liga Super, Liga Premier, Piala Malaysia, Piala FA, and Piala Sumbangsih. Malaysia Airlines will also team up with MFL to support its activities, including local and international conferences, and football clinics.

Further to its commitment as the official airline partner for MFL – leveraging the extensive organizational network of the Malaysia Aviation Group, parent company of MAB – this collaboration will see joint campaigns, branding, and events with Firefly, MASwings, MHholidays and Enrich.

The MoU was signed by Stuart Ramalingam, Chief Executive Officer of MFL, and Lau Yin May, Group Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer of MAB. Also present at the event were Dato’ Ab Ghani Hassan, President of MFL, and Captain Izham Ismail, Group Chief Executive Officer of MAG, who witnessed the signing.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Captain Izham commented, “I am certain that this symbiotic relationship between Malaysia Airlines and MFL will be a boon to football enthusiasts across the nation – uniting fans with their favourite teams, especially supporters from East Malaysia, who can now enjoy more matches held in the peninsular, and vice versa, through our seamless connectivity and increased flight frequency.

As the official airline for MFL and its celebrated professional competitions, Malaysia Airlines commits to providing seamless connectivity and safe travels for members of the MFL and football fans alike.”

On the same positive note, Mr. Stuart Ramalingam said, “The Malaysian Football League (MFL) partnership with Malaysia Airlines Berhad symbolizes two brands – the national carrier and the nation’s biggest football association – coming together to elevate the standard of the Malaysian football scene to greater heights, in line with the national agenda.

We are delighted to welcome our national carrier to Liga Malaysia. With the new season and fixtures scheduled for the year, members of the Malaysian football fraternity and fans who seek to travel across the country can take advantage of the Malaysia Airlines’ increased frequencies, especially from Sabah and Sarawak. Passengers can also rest assured in the stellar safety record of the airline’s Fly Confidently campaign to watch their favourite teams up close. This will provide much boost to the football fraternity and clubs after the cancellation of several pre-season matches this year, due to COVID-19-related issues.”

The signing of this MoU follows MAB’s recent partnerships with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and the Johor Darul Ta’zim Football Club (JDT), demonstrating the airline’s unwavering dedication to supporting the development of homegrown talent in the sporting field.
