Following a widespread technical disruption affecting the UK National Air Traffic Services (NATS) air traffic control system on 8 September 2026, flight operations at several UK airports were significantly disrupted. As a result, Malaysia Airlines flight MH4 from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to London Heathrow (LHR) on 8 September 2026 was diverted to Manchester Airport (MAN). This disruption also resulted in the cancellation of flight MH1 from London Heathrow (LHR) to Kuala Lumpur (KUL) on 8 September 2026. To facilitate passenger recovery, Malaysia Airlines will operate dedicated recovery services under flight numbers MH4D and MH1D on 9 September 2026 as follows: Revised Flight Schedule for 9 September 2026: MH4D (MAN–LHR): Departs Manchester (MAN) at 5:45pm BST | Arrives London Heathrow (LHR) at 6:45pm BST MH1D (LHR–KUL): Departs London Heathrow (LHR) at 8:00pm BST | Arrives Kuala Lumpur (KUL) at 4:15pm MYT (10 Sep) Important Check-In Details for Passengers Travelling on MH4D: Terminal: Terminal 2 • Check-In Zone & Counters: Zone D, Counters D3–D6 Counter Opening Time: 2:00pm local time (14:00 BST) Passengers are kindly requested to make their way to Terminal 2 counters upon opening to ensure smooth departure and queue management. For passengers affected by MH4, please take note of the following: 1. Accommodation and Ground Expenses Due to high demand across UK airports, hotel accommodation in London and Manchester is extremely limited. Affected guests are advised to make their own lodging arrangements where needed. Malaysia Airlines will reimburse hotel accommodation up to £150 per room, per night, alongside reasonable meal expenses and local ground transportation, including taxi, Uber, or train fares. Guests should retain all itemised receipts and submit their reimbursement claims through the Feedback Form on the Malaysia Airlines website. 2. Checked Baggage Handling at Manchester Passengers on diverted flight MH4 are advised to proceed to their accommodation without waiting for checked baggage at Manchester Airport. Due to stand congestion and remote parking constraints, baggage offloading cannot be carried out safely at MAN. All checked bags remain secure in Malaysia Airlines' custody and will be flown to London Heathrow on flight MH4D, where collection details will be provided upon arrival. Passengers who require urgent access to essential medication or other essential items from their checked baggage may purchase the medications and should retain all itemised receipts for reimbursement. In the event there are issues with your luggage at LHR, you may lodge a report at https://mybag.aero/baggage/#/pax/mab/en-gb/create-report . 3. Onward Travel and Self-Termination Passengers in Manchester who wish to complete their journey locally or arrange independent travel to nearby domestic stations or continental Europe may do so and claim eligible transport expenses with receipts. Guests holding onward connections booked directly with Malaysia Airlines are advised to manage their itineraries or rebook via the 'My Booking' feature on our website. Malaysia Airlines deeply regrets the inconvenience caused by this system-wide disruption. Further operational updates will be communicated directly to affected passengers via email and SMS.
