Temporary Airspace Closure and Flight Retimings for National Day Flypast 2026

Temporary airspace closure at KLIA may affect flight schedules during National Day Flypast 2026.

Temporary Airspace Closures: National Day Flypast In conjunction with Malaysia’s 69th National Day celebrations, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has announced temporary airspace closures within the Kuala Lumpur Terminal Control Area to facilitate rehearsals for the National Day Flypast 2026. As a result, scheduled aircraft take-offs and landings at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) will be temporarily suspended during the following periods:

To accommodate these airspace restrictions, several Malaysia Airlines’ flights arriving at and departing from KLIA Terminal 1 will be retimed. The affected flights are as follows:

Passengers with bookings on the affected flights will be notified of the revised schedule through their registered contact details. Passengers are also encouraged to check their latest flight status via the Malaysia Airlines website or mobile app before travelling to the airport.

Passengers Advised to Arrive Early During Peak Travel Period 26 August 2026 to 6 September 2026

As this period coincides with the Malaysian school holidays and an anticipated peak travel period, higher passenger volumes are expected at the airport. Passengers departing from KLIA Terminal 1 are advised to arrive at least four (4) hours before their scheduled departure time to allow sufficient time for check-in, travel-document verification, immigration and security clearance. To ensure a seamless travel experience, passengers are advised to take note of the following: Travel Documents Passengers are reminded to ensure they have all required travel documents and to verify entry and exit requirements through official websites, immigration authorities, or embassies before their journey, given the travel restrictions in many countries. Travellers choosing self-service check-in at KLIA, especially those flying to international destinations, are advised to verify their travel documents at the check-in counter. Bring the required travel documents such as original passport and identification card as well as MyKID for those travelling with children. Passport validity shall not be less than six (6) months from the departure date. Check-in Perform web or mobile check-in from 48 hours and to 90 minutes before the flight. Passengers can also use the self-service kiosks at KLIA and print their luggage tags and boarding pass. Passengers can then proceed to the baggage drop counter or straight to the boarding gate if travelling without luggage. The Self-Service Bag Drop (SSBD) counter is located at Row G and Row H for International Flights and Row B for Domestic Flights. Business Suite and Business Class passengers, as well as Enrich Platinum, Gold and Silver members, may check-in at Row D for both Domestic and International Flights. Economy Class passengers traveling on Domestic Flights are required to proceed to Row B; and International Flights at Row H. Please note that check-in counters will close 60 minutes before the scheduled departure time for domestic and international flights. Security and Boarding After completing check-in, passengers are encouraged to proceed directly to the security screening area. The cut-off time for scanning the boarding pass is 40 minutes before departure for domestic flights and 50 minutes for international flights. Please be prepared for extended waiting times, which may exceed 45 minutes, at key touchpoints such as check-in counters, immigration, and security clearance, due to the anticipated high volume of travellers. The boarding gate will close 30 minutes before departure. Business Suite, Business Class and Enrich Platinum passengers travelling with Malaysia Airlines may still use the airline’s  Private Terminal Transfer Service.  Pick up location is at G1 at the Contact Pier.  Aerotrain services may be temporarily replaced with shuttle buses during nightly maintenance (between 11:00 pm to 5:00am). Please follow airport signage to the designated bus lounges for terminal transfers. Cabin Baggage Policy Economy Class passengers are allowed to bring onboard one (1) cabin-size luggage that weighs no more than 7kg in total. Business Class passengers are allowed to bring onboard two (2) cabin-size luggage and one (1) personal item that weighs no more than 14kg in total. Important: Please note that lithium batteries, including power banks, are prohibited in checked luggage and must be carried in your carry-on baggage in accordance with regulations. Onboard, they should not be placed in the overhead compartments and must be stored under the seat in front of you or in the seat pocket. Passengers are strongly encouraged to carry their medications in their carry-on baggage to ensure easy access. Additional Information Malaysian passport holders are encouraged to use the MyBorderPass app to obtain a QR code and expedite departure immigration clearance through eight (8) E-Gates. Download the MyBorderPass app via Google Play Store  (Android 8.0 and above) or  Apple App Store  (iOS 12 and above). Nine (9) autogate facilities with facial recognition are available for eligible foreign passport holders to ensure a seamless departure process.
