Novel Coronavirus: Temporary Travel Restriction for Chinese visitors and other foreigners into Sarawak


The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee Secretariat today imposed a temporary entry restriction into Sarawak to all citizens of China and other foreigners who have travelled to China in the last 14 days, with immediate effect. Meanwhile, those with Employment Passes, Student Passes, Long Special Passes will be allowed entry and subject to a compulsory self-quarantine at home for 14 days.

The ban is part of the state government’s measures to mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in Sarawak.

In light of this situation, passengers holding Malaysia Airlines confirmed tickets issued on or/before 28 Jan 2020 for travel from 28 Jan until 29 Feb 2020 to/from mainland China (Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Xiamen) will be permitted a cancellation with full refund or a one-time flight change with waiver of change/cancellation fees (applies to partially used and wholly unused tickets). Revised/alternative travel date must be on/before 31 May 2020, subject to flight availability. Health Declaration Form on Entry to Sarawak

Effective 2 February 2020, Malaysia Airlines passengers travelling to Sarawak (those besides the above-mentioned) will be required to fill in the Health Declaration Form following the latest entry requirement imposed by the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Health. 

Malaysia Airlines’ ground staff will be distributing the form at the boarding area prior to departure to passengers travelling on the following flights:-

  • Kuala Lumpur- Kuching
  • Kuala Lumpur –Miri
  • Kuala Lumpur- Sibu
  • Kuala Lumpur-Bintulu
  • Kota Kinabalu –Kuching
  • Singapore-Kuching

Malaysia Airlines wishes to caution passengers that those who fail to comply with the travel requirement will not be allowed to travel to Sarawak.

Malaysia Airlines is closely monitoring this situation and will make the necessary adjustments if required.
