Smart Baggage and Smart Ridable Baggage

Since the introduction of Smart Baggage and Smart Ridable Baggage (as shown in the snapshot below), we have recently observed passengers bringing these items as carry-on luggage into the cabin. These bags feature electronic components such as power banks, charging ports, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, or tracking chips. More advanced models now include built-in scales, electric scooters, and robotic navigation systems that follow passengers, allowing for hands-free movement. Following a meeting with the relevant stakeholders, it has been decided that Malaysia Airlines will only accept Smart Baggage and Smart Ridable Baggage for transport with specific restrictions, as outlined below. This new policy has been implemented effective 15 November 2024. Given the high cost of these bags and the direct impact this policy will have on passengers traveling with such items, we request this policy to be made available for public info. This will help prevent any confusion, miscommunication, or disputes at customer touchpoints (e.g., check-in counters and boarding gates), which could lead to negative publicity on social media and other platforms.

Detailed conditions for carrying Smart Baggage or Smart Ridable Baggage are as follows:

*The removed Smart Baggage or Smart Ridable Baggage battery should be placed in a pouch or its manufacturer's box to avoid activation and carried separately as hand luggage into the cabin.
