New Malaysian Airport Charges gives customers Freedom of Choice
Sepang, 31 October 2016: Malaysia Airlines today welcomed the changes in Malaysian Airport charges from 1 January 2017. The Kuala Lumpur airport charges will be equal for Domestic and Asean flights from 1 January 2017 and the authorities plan full equalization by 1 January 2018. The new charges will see a reduction of some RM35 (USD$ 8.33) per passenger for Asean passengers at KLIA which will become the same price as KLIA2.
Welcoming the announcement Peter Bellew, Group Chief Executive Malaysia Airlines Berhad said, “Our customers now have the freedom to choose whatever terminal they wish in Kuala Lumpur. To celebrate the equality we will have a “Freedom Fares” sale starting on Wednesday 2nd to 8th November on selected ASEAN routes with fully inclusive fares from RM149 and domestic from RM99.
It is great news that the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) confirmed today that they are moving to full equalization on international routes from 1 January 2018”
It is important for the turnaround of Malaysia Airlines that we fight for every dollar and cent savings where possible. There is much work to be done but this news creates opportunity for us to compete on a level playing pitch in Malaysia.
I look forward to working with MAVCOM to implement full equalization in 2018 for international flights. Carriers at KLIA2 will enjoy a saving in 2017 of RM23 (USD$5.47) on International flights which is worth around RM250m (USD$60m) per annum. Together the Malaysian industry needs to market Kuala Lumpur to attract new international services from a variety of carriers. A level charges system will help to get new longhaul flights in place.”
