Malaysia Airlines Resumes Flights from Kota Kinabalu to Tokyo

Eastern Hub now back in operation

Kota Kinabalu, 27 October 2013: Malaysia Airlines has re-introduced direct flights to Narita International Airport, Tokyo from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. This much awaited service was strongly rooted for by Malaysians and Japanese alike. This service will re-open Kota Kinabalu as the Malaysian national carrier’s eastern hub.

Beginning 28 October 2013, MH080 will depart Kota Kinabalu at 7.25am on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays and arrive at Tokyo at 2.00pm on the same days.

Meanwhile, the return flight, MH081 will depart Tokyo at 2.55pm on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays and arrive Kota Kinabalu at 8.05pm on the same days.

A two-class configured Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 144 economy class seats and 16 business class seats is being used for this Tokyo - Kota Kinabalu return service.

Malaysia Airlines’ Group Chief Executive Officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said, “Malaysia Airlines had previously suspended various routes flying out of Kota Kinabalu to the Far-East. The suspension was part of our network consolidation involving single-aisle aircraft operations. As promised, we reviewed the decision and with market demand, have decided to reinstate this route. We are confident that this route will serve us well and at the same time be a valuable addition for our customers”, he added.

“This new service supports the Visit Malaysia Year 2014 campaign. This route is another gateways for tourists to explore the beauty and wilderness of Sabah and Malaysia in the whole. Sabah is a must visit destination”, he added further.
