Malaysia Airlines Regional Team celebrates with Travel Agents at Malaysia Airlines Travel Agents Awards 2013

Subang, 20 June 2013 – Malaysia Airlines played host for 74 travel agents at the national carrier’s annual Travel Agents Awards Dinner 2013 held at The Majestic, Kuala Lumpur last Friday.

The Malaysia Airlines Travel Agents Awards Dinner was to recognise the success of 74 travel agencies from the central region, including Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Malacca and Ipoh, Perak.

The hotel ballroom was awash with flashing lights, retro music, retro fashion, afro wigs, leather jackets and Ray Ban sunglasses - showcasing the retro theme chosen as part of Malaysia Airlines’ 40th anniversary of year-long celebrations that will end this 30 September 2013.

Classy entertainment by Sheila Majid coupled with the 5-star hotel ballroom set the stage. Fun, laughter and celebration filled the air - joy from winning in the sales game and winning the many Business Class return tickets for two up for grabs as lucky draw prizes.

Speaking at the event, Malaysia Airlines Regional Senior Vice President, Muzammil Mohamed said, “We are here to cherish a year’s effort of hard work that saw the travel trade revenue grow by 4.1% whilst passenger numbers grew by 5.6%. Even when we upped the stakes and made the criteria more stringent to qualify for the recognition, so many still made it to the top. We’re extremely proud of our agents' success.”

Malaysia Airlines Group CEO, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya described the travel trade as being key business partners, both in generating revenue for Malaysia Airlines and in making customers’ travel hassle free. Travel agents brought in approximately 60% of revenue recorded in Peninsular Malaysia last year.

“Going forward, the true value of the travel agent will become more enhanced in as the world becomes more complex and customers turn to travel agents who act as travel concierges and consultants, to take the hassle out from planning; to make their travel hassle free”, said Ahmad Jauhari.

Related to that, Ahmad Jauhari took the opportunity to seek the travel trade’s cooperation to manage efficiently the communication link with passengers that the agents had booked. This is especially important when contacting passengers to inform flight retiming.

A host of awards was presented that evening. Gold and Diamond awards for different sales targets. The highest, the Platinum Award for sales surpassing the RM100 million mark, was won by Holiday Travel and Tours.

This time, special ‘RSVP Awards’ were also presented to agents which had shown the highest improvement in sales for front-end revenue, revenue growth for international and for domestic. A special RSVP Award was presented to POTO Travel that had shown tremendous improvements in terms of support towards MH and for being innovative in developing Halal tours.

The evening was also a platform to introduce to the travel agents, Malaysia Airlines’ new signature drink, Ruby Passion, and to reinforce the carrier’s main selling points, among them – World’s 5-star Airline with unrivalled ‘Malaysian Hospitality’ service, the A380s and the routes it flies, the fleet renewal programme which will make Malaysia Airlines’ fleet one of the youngest in the world by end 2013 at 5.4 years on average, and about its entry into the oneworld alliance, connecting its passengers to more destinations.
