Malaysia Airlines Receives ISO 27001 Certification for Information Security Management System

Subang, 18 July 2013: Malaysia Airlines has joined the league of 74 companies in Malaysia qualified for the Information Security Management System (ISMS) Certification.

Malaysia Airlines’ Group Chief Executive Officer, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya received the MS/IEC ISO 27001:2007 Certificate from CyberSecurity Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Amirudin Abdul Wahab, at the airline’s headquarters in Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport last week Wednesday.

“Receiving the certification is another milestone in our airline’s journey to pursue with total determination, a consistent achievement of maintaining a secure operational environment for our customers, staff and other stakeholders. It raises our marketability as an airline with high security standards,” Ahmad Jauhari said.

“This accreditation certifies that Malaysia Airlines Information Security Management System (ISMS) maintains best practices in information security,” he added.

Meanwhile, in announcing the certification, Malaysia Airlines Chief Information Officer, Faridah Abdul Rahman congratulated the CyberSecurity and Malaysia Airlines’ team for their achievement.

“By receiving the accreditation, CyberSecurity and Malaysia Airlines have demonstrated their commitment to ensure the certification is obtained this year,” said Faridah.

“Malaysia Airlines is the first Malaysian base carrier company to be certified and the certification for Data Center operations is part of Malaysia Airlines corporate-wide ISMS implementation programme. The certification acknowledges that Malaysia Airlines is committed to maintaining confidentiality of business and customers’ information, and ensuring that company information and assets are for authorised use only,” she added.

The process started in 2010, following a directive from the Cabinet for all Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) organisations like Malaysia Airlines to implement ISMS and obtain MS/IEC ISO 27001 certification.

CyberSecurity Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Amirudin Abdul Wahab said, “ISMS is a comprehensive mechanism for managing cyber security and risks. It is being used in 86 countries worldwide. The Malaysian Government recognises that having ISMS certification will make Malaysian organisations at par with other organisations in advanced countries like Japan and United Kingdom”.

“Malaysia Airlines is now officially accepted as a CNII organisation that complies with ISMS certification,” he added.
