Malaysia Airlines and Weixin Pay Forge Strategic Partnership to Enhance the Travel Booking Experience in China

Malaysia Airlines partners Weixin Pay to create a more seamless digital booking and payment journey for Chinese travellers.

The agreement will build on Malaysia Airlines’ established Weixin presence to support the launch and adoption of its planned mini program and deliver a more seamless booking and payment experience for Chinese travellers

Shanghai, 8 October 2026 – Malaysia Airlines has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Weixin Pay, to enhance the travel booking experience for Chinese travellers. The collaboration will support the launch and adoption of Malaysia Airlines’ planned Weixin Mini Program through joint campaigns across the Weixin ecosystem and the airline’s own marketing channels. The MoU was signed by Dersenish Aresandiran, Chief Commercial Officer of Airline Business from Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), and Ben Yang, Managing Director of Weixin Pay, Southeast Asia, North America and LATAM, in conjunction with Malaysia Airlines’ 2026 China Trade Gala held in Shanghai on 22 September 2026. Malaysia Airlines’ Weixin Official Account and Weixin Channels provide established platforms for engaging Chinese travellers. The collaboration will build on this presence to lay a strong foundation for the airline’s planned mini program, enabling a closer connection between destination content, promotional offers and booking services. Dersenish Aresandiran, Chief Commercial Officer of Airline Business from MAG, said: “Our presence on Weixin has helped us build closer connections with Chinese travellers. Working with Weixin Pay will allow us to build on that engagement as we prepare to introduce our own mini program. By bringing relevant content, offers and access to booking services closer together across familiar digital touchpoints, we aim to make the journey from travel inspiration to booking more seamless. This collaboration reflects our continued investment in locally relevant customer experiences and in making Malaysia Airlines more accessible to travellers in China.” Ben Yang, Managing Director of Weixin Pay, Southeast Asia, North America and LATAM, said: “We are pleased to partner with Malaysia Airlines to support the launch and adoption of its planned Weixin Mini Program. By combining the reach and touchpoints of the Weixin ecosystem with Malaysia Airlines’ marketing resources, we aim to help more Chinese travellers discover the airline’s destinations and offers, and access its booking services. We look forward to deepening customer engagement and creating sustainable commercial value for both parties. Under the MoU, Malaysia Airlines and Weixin Pay will coordinate joint go-to-market campaigns to support the launch and user adoption of the Weixin Mini Program. Promotional and engagement initiatives will be carried out across Weixin Pay, Channels, Official Accounts and social sharing, supported by Malaysia Airlines’ own marketing channels. These initiatives are designed to strengthen brand visibility, expand audience reach, encourage the use of the Mini Program and support improved booking conversion and measurable commercial outcomes for both parties. For Chinese travellers, the partnership aims to create a more seamless experience from destination discovery to booking and payment. Bringing relevant travel content, promotional offers and access to the planned Weixin Mini Program together within the Weixin ecosystem would give customers to a more seamless way to engage with Malaysia Airlines through a platform they already use in their daily lives. The planned Weixin Mini Program will provide another digital gateway to Malaysia Airlines’ network, which currently serves Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Changsha, Hong Kong and Taipei. Moving forward, connectivity between China and Malaysia will expand further through sister airline Firefly, which plans to introduce daily Kuala Lumpur–Kunming services, subject to regulatory approval. Together, the expanded network and locally relevant digital access will make it easier for Chinese travellers to discover and book journeys to Malaysia and destinations beyond.
