In view of the current situation with regards to the spread of Novel Coronavirus from Wuhan,


Preventive measures placed by Malaysia Airlines

Malaysia Airlines will be conducting temperature screening for all passengers travelling to and from Mainland China, effective immediately. This is to meet the requirement set by the Chinese Customs, Immigration, Quarantine Authority. 

All passengers are advised to arrive early at the airport and proceed to the boarding lounge 90 minutes prior to departure where the screening will be conducted.

In the interest of passenger and crew safety as well as comfort, those with symptoms of fever, cough, and breathlessness are strongly advised to postpone travels to prevent from being denied boarding and entry into Mainland China.

On 28 January 2020, the Ministry of Health Malaysia requires anyone originating, residing or travelling from China within the last 14 days, to identify themselves to health authority officials prior to the Immigration counters at KLIA. Passengers will be provided with a Health Alert Card (HAC).

Those who are suffering from fever, difficulty in breathing and cough, is also required to identify themselves for further health screening by the health authority.

All passengers are also subjected to body temperature screening at thermal scanner counters located at KLIA.

From Mainland China, the screening is conducted by the Chinese health authority.


Cancellation and Waiver Policy

In light of this situation, passengers holding Malaysia Airlines confirmed tickets issued for travel from 28 Jan until 29 Feb 2020 to/from mainland China (Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Xiamen) will be permitted cancellation with full refund or a one-time flight change with waiver of change/cancellation fees (applies to partially used and wholly unused tickets). Revised/alternative travel date must be on or before 31 May 2020, subject to flight availability. Passengers may call our Contact Centre at 1 300 88 3000 (in Malaysia) or +603 7843 3000 (outside Malaysia) to initiate these transactions.


Travel recommendations to ensure passenger and crew safety

Malaysia Airlines would like to advise its passengers to protect themselves and others by following these travel recommendations to prevent the spread of the virus:

Practice cough and sneezing etiquetteAvoid individuals who are showing symptoms of fever, runny nose and coughAvoid identified wet markets and farms in the affected regions

During the period of outbreak, passengers are also advised to bring their own face mask to protect themselves.

Malaysia Airlines is guided by aviation health procedures placed by the Ministry of Health Malaysia, World Health Organization (WHO) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) when interacting with a potentially infectious traveller. 

The airline has also placed control measures to reduce the risk of onboard disease transmission, which includes providing medical communicable disease kit in every aircraft to cater for ill passengers.
