Malaysia Airlines Commences Double Daily - Kuala Lumpur-London Return A380 Operations

Sepang, 24 November 2012 : Malaysia Airlines’ today commenced the twice daily A380 Kuala Lumpur-London-Kuala Lumpur services with the inaugural daytime flight MH4 departing KL International Airport (KLIA) for the UK capital at 10.45am.

This double daily was made possible after the national carrier received its third and fourth A380 aircraft on 19 November and yesterday respectively.

With the introduction of the double daily A380 services, Malaysia Airlines will cease the 359-seater B747-400 flight operations between KLIA and London.

  • The daytime flight MH4 will depart KLIA at 10.45 am daily and arrives London Heathrow the same day at 4.15 pm. The return flight MH1 departs London daily at 10.00 pm and arrive KLIA the next day at 6.20 pm.
  • This daytime service will be complemented by a daily night service to the UK capital. MH 2 departs KLIA at 11.40 pm and arrives in London at 5.50 am the following day. The return flight MH3 departs London at 12.00 noon and arrives at KLIA at 7.25 am the next day.

Commenting on this development, Malaysia Airlines’ Group Chief Executive Officer, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said, “The double daily A380 service is part of our Business Plan to win back customers by gradually expanding our fleet with new aircraft featuring state-of-the-art passenger amenities. Complemented by our award-winning cabin staff, we are confident that such attributes will continue to drive revenue and loads, and our return to profitability“.

Malaysia Airlines has also introduced a special service on the daytime A380 flight for children between the ages of 5 to 15.

Aimed at raising awareness of onboard safety in a fun way, young passengers, in groups of four and accompanied by two cabin staff, will be taken on a tour on the Upper and Main deck economy class. The young ones will be briefed on the A380 aircraft galleys, get a chance to try out the cabin attendant’s seats, life jackets and even take a peek at the crew bunk.

Malaysia Airlines A380 is the only full service carrier to offer direct services between Malaysia and the UK.

The introduction of the double daily service improves Malaysia Airlines weekly seat capacity by 37% in both directions of the KLIA-London Heathrow route. A total of 6,916 seats weekly are offered compared to 5,026 seats through the earlier double daily B747-400 operations.

Malaysia Airlines is the eighth operator in the world of the new A380 aircraft series, and will receive its remaining two A380 by the first quarter of 2013.
