Malaysia Airlines Commence Haj Flights for 2012 - First Haj Flight Leaves for Madinah Today

Sepang, 17 September 2012 : Malaysia Airlines today commenced its 2012 Haj flights from KL International Airport (KLIA) and will operate a total of 33 scheduled Haj charter flights between six cities in Malaysia and Jeddah and Madinah in Saudi Arabia.

The first flight MH 8000 departed from KLIA at 1.05pm today with 447 pilgrims and will arrive in Madinah at 5.05pm. Officials from Malaysia Airlines, Tabung Haji and Malaysia Airports Berhad (Sepang) were on hand to send off the passengers on the first flight.

The Haj operations will be in two phases. For the first phase from 17 September to 19 October this year the national carrier will operate 17 flights from KLIA, 5 from Penang, 2 from Kuala Terengganu, 5 from Johor Bahru and 2 each from Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. The second phase flights from Saudi Arabia to Malaysia will be from 1 to 29 November 2012.

The airline will utilize two 747-400 passenger aircraft from its fleet for this Haj movement.

Each seat in these aircraft is fitted with a personal TV screen, providing passengers the choice to view video programmes specially selected for this service. Likewise passengers will enjoy six dedicated audio programmes ranging from classical instrumentals, Nasyid selections to Quranic verses during the flight.

A ‘Doa Musafir’ will precede each flight departure and all flight safety demonstrations by the cabin staff will be done in Bahasa Malaysia for easy understanding by the passengers.  There will be also inflight announcement of the time for reciting the “niat of ihram” (miqat) by the passengers.

A special menu for the passengers has been prepared with the approval of Lembaga Tabung Haji and apart from the main meals, each passenger will be given snack packs for consumption whilst awaiting statutory clearance on arrival in Jeddah.  In addition, there will be increased supply of mineral water and juices in-flight to ensure passengers do not experience dehydration during the air travel.

Malaysia Airlines has mobilized experienced staff for the ground handling of the Haj operations in Tabung Haji Complex/Kelana Jaya, KLIA and in the two Saudi Arabian airports of Jeddah and Madinah.
