Malaysia Airlines Deploys Its B747-400 To Cairo
Subang, 03 February 2011 : Malaysia Airlines rescue flight MH 8010, a B747-400, the largest MAS aircraft is expected to arrive at the Cairo International Airport at 1.54pm (Egypt local time) today.
MH 8010 ferried nine Malaysian Government officials and several key personnel from Malaysia Airlines. The mission was led by Chef de Mission, Dato Captain Nawawi Haji Awang who is Malaysia Airlines’ Executive Vice President for External Relations.
National Security Council (NSC) is the main coordinating body for the rescue mission in Egypt. Amongst NSC’s immediate task will be in determining the list of passengers to be assigned to the various mode of transportation deployed to Egypt. Malaysia Airlines is assisting the NSC to facilitate the evacuation process. For every flight, from Cairo to Jeddah, MAS have reserved 345 seats for the stranded Malaysians. MAS started preparations for the evacuation since yesterday morning in order to implement uninterrupted evacuation of the Malaysians out of Cairo.
Malaysia Airlines’ Director of Operations Captain Mohamed Azharuddin Osman said, "Malaysia Airlines places the security of our fellow Malaysians as our top priority. We will continue to assist the evacuation process from Cairo to Jeddah, and safely back to Malaysia. However, we need to work around external factors such as the fluctuating curfew times in Cairo and airport congestion, which will hamper the scheduling of flight frequency. Our team has been working round the clock to ensure the success of this mission and will continue to support NSC and the Malaysian Government.”
Rescue flight MH 8010 departed Kuala Lumpur at 9.20 am this morning. This flight is scheduled to depart Cairo at 4.20pm (Egypt local time) and arrive at Jeddah at 6.10pm (Saudi local time). This will be followed by a series of shuttle flights between Jeddah and Cairo.
The following are the twice scheduled daily flights Jeddah-Cairo-Jeddah starting tomorrow to evacuate stranded Malaysians in Cairo.

7.25am (Egypt LT)
Cairo – Jeddah
9.25 am (Egypt LT)
12.25pm (Saudi LT)
*This tentative schedule is subjected to curfew hours set by Egypt Airport Authority. Cairo International Airport daily flight operations are from 7.00am – 3.00pm.
In driving its CSR efforts, Malaysia Airlines had recently assisted to transport relief supplies for Malaysian students who were affected in the recent floods in Brisbane.
