Finnair and Malaysia Airlines Begin Codeshare Agreement
Subang, 20 November 2012 : Finnair and Malaysia Airlines have established new code shares effective today, increasing access to the airlines’ respective hubs in Helsinki and Kuala Lumpur.
Through this new arrangement valid for air travel from 1 December 2012, selected Malaysia Airlines services between Kuala Lumpur and the cities of Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong will carry the Finnair flight code. Likewise, Malaysia Airlines’ flight code will be used on selected Finnair services between Helsinki and the European cities of London, Paris, Frankfurt and Amsterdam.
To promote this code-share, Malaysia Airlines is now offering attractive all inclusive return fares starting from RM4396.00 for economy class travel and RM13363.00 for Business class trips.
“Finnair is very pleased to offer our customers flying to Southeast Asia extended reach to Kuala Lumpur, the cultural and economic heart of Malaysia and a fast-growing and prosperous metropolis,” says Hannu Sundberg, Finnair Vice President, Commercial Partnerships. “By the same token we are also pleased to welcome Malaysia Airlines’ customers to Helsinki and establish closer cooperation between our two airlines. Malaysia Airlines is a natural counterpart for us and we look forward to welcoming the company to the oneworld alliance.”
Malaysia Airlines’ Senior Vice President of Government & International Affairs Mr Germal Singh said, “The arrangement with Finnair is part of our strategy to develop commercial cooperation with oneworld alliance members as we prepare towards becoming a full member of the alliance next year. This is also our initiative towards enhancing air connectivity with key priority markets overseas for increased tourist arrivals into Malaysia as required by our government’s Economic Transformation Programme”
“Through this partnership we can expand our reach in Europe without operating our own flights between Malaysia and the Scandinavian region. As one of the most affordable tourist destinations in the Asia Pacific region, we are confident that more tourists from the Scandinavian region will use this code share and visit Malaysia,” he added.
On February 1, 2013, Malaysia Airlines will also join the oneworld alliance, of which Finnair is a member.
Finnair is specialised in fast connections between Europe and Asia via Helsinki. The airline carries more than eight million passengers annually and connects 11 cities in Asia with more than 50 destinations in Europe. The airline, a pioneer in sustainable flying, operates a young, modern fleet and is the first airline named to the Leadership Index of the worldwide Carbon Disclosure Project.
