MASholidays and Sime Darby Healthcare Launch Specialised Screening and Surgical Packages

Subang, 18 October 2011 : MASholidays, the travel and tour arm of Malaysia Airlines, and Sime Darby Healthcare (SDH), one of the country’s leading one-stop healthcare providers, have joined hands to launch specialised medical health screenings and surgical packages.

Under this arrangement, SDH will offer a range of specialised packages like Gastroscopy, Colorectal, Cardiac and Digestive Tract screenings (including a total knee replacement surgery) to MASholidays at attractive rates.

MASholidays will then incorporate these options into its all-inclusive travel packages and promote them to customers who wish to experience Malaysia’s tourist attractions and affordable world class medical facilities.

Through these packages, customers get to choose between four to five-star hotel accomodation with economy class return travel exclusively on Malaysia Airlines, as well as daily breakfast and ground transfers.

These attractive offers were announced at a joint launching ceremony officiated by YM Raja Azlan Shah Raja Azwa, the Managing Director of Sime Darby Healthcare (SDH) and Dato’ Dr. Amin Khan, Executive Vice President, Commercial Strategy of Malaysia Airlines and witnessed by Sime Darby Healthcare-Medical Chief Executive Officer, Elaine Cheong and Josephine Liew, Senior Vice President of MASholidays.

Through these packages, customers are able to travel from Dhaka, Ho Chi Minh City, Siem Reap or Phnom Penh to Kuala Lumpur on return economy class tickets with Malaysia Airlines, two nights’ accommodation in a 5-star hotel, daily breakfast, Cardiac health screening, airport transfer and a roundtrip private transfer from the hotel to SDH for as low as MYR2,040 or USD640.

This comprehensive programme will provide tourists with a two-in-one package, a holiday alongside preventive health care programmes in Malaysia.

A surgical package is also provided for customers travelling from UK, Europe, USA, Auckland, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth for unilateral or bilateral knee replacement. From MYR25,050 or AUD7,985, this package covers thirteen nights’ accommodation at SDH and 4 to 5-star hotels, pre-operative tests, medical equipment and supplies, rehabilitation, physiotherapy and other post-surgery services.

Speaking at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two parties in Subang Jaya today, SDH’s Raja Azlan said, “Currently we have several initiatives in place to reach and develop our foreign markets.  We are taking part in healthcare marketing missions and exhibitions in selected target markets, promoting our facilities and services to various groups of consumers.

I am optimistic that our collaboration with MASholidays to offer specialised screening packages and total knee replacement surgery at competitive prices, will help to position Malaysia as a preferred medical tourism destination in the region, for foreign patients travelling with Malaysian Airlines.

This is because, to quote from a consultancy report, cost of medical treatment in Malaysia is on average between 20% - 45% of the cost in United States depending on the type of procedure or treatment. The highest savings, about 80% to 70% are recorded for cardiac and orthopaedic procedures while treatments that are more complex are 50% cheaper”.

He added, “Sime Darby Healthcare always strives to give customers a positive experience through top-notch service. By providing high quality healthcare at competitive pricing, we hope to attract more international patients to our medical facilities.”

Also speaking at the ceremony, Dato’ Dr. Amin Khan said, “MASholidays first introduced the Health Screening package in 2005. Based on feedback from our customers and offices overseas, we noticed an increasing demand for specialised screenings throughout Asia especially in Malaysia. Malaysia boasts a high number of health institutions with extensive international medical facilities and qualified doctors—our partnership with Sime Darby Healthcare has enabled us to meet these growing demands to benefit our customers.

“Medical tourism has emerged as one of the fastest growing segments over the last few years and MASholidays’ expansion into this area is a timely support of the government’s Economic Transformation Programme which aims to position Malaysia as the preferred destination for world-class healthcare services.

With its network of over 100 destinations worldwide, Malaysia Airlines is ideal for connecting those seeking medical treatment to Malaysia, apart from simplifying the customer’s travel process and catering to their needs with comfort, flexibility and affordability.  This is a vital source of tourism revenue for the country and is MASholidays’ contribution to make Malaysia the preferred medical tourism destination”.

“Beyond receiving health care benefits here, tourists can also enjoy their vacation in Malaysia, where they can find the perfect mix of luxury, culture and world-class cuisine,” he added.
