Farnborough, UK, 12 July 2012 : Malaysia Airlines has been awarded 5-star status in the SKYTRAX World Airline Awards™, joining an elite group of airlines to receive this prestigious ranking for their truly consistent and high quality of product and service.
Announced today at a ceremony held at the world-renowned Farnborough International Air Show, Malaysia Airlines also received the prestigious accolades of World’s Best Airline Cabin Crew’ and ‘Best Airline Signature Dish’ for its Satay, a traditional Malay dish, served in the Business and First Class cabins.
The World Airline Awards™ are the global benchmark for airline excellence, with over 18 million travellers from over 160 countries and 100 different nationalities taking part each year in the world’s largest independent passenger satisfaction survey to decide the winners.
The exclusive top-tier 5-star rating and Cabin Crew prize is the most coveted of all the categories and a significant achievement for Malaysia Airlines, recognising the essence of Malaysian hospitality, which is integral to the Malaysia Airlines’ experience.
Malaysia Airlines’ on-board dining was also selected as the best in the skies, with the signature Satay, Malaysian grilled chicken and beef skewers in spicy peanut sauce, given the accolade of best signature dish on-board any airline.
Collecting the awards at the ceremony, Malaysia Airlines’ Group CEO Mr. Ahmad Jauhari Yahya thanked his team for their commitment in providing true Malaysian Hospitality. “It is an honour to receive this prestigious 5-star ranking and to be recognised by our passengers as leading the way in service and hospitality on-board Malaysia Airlines. There is no more important accolade for an airline than the feedback of its customers, and the independent and global nature of the SKYTRAX World Airline Awards™ makes these awards the pinnacle of any airline’s achievements.”
“I am very pleased that our Malaysia Airlines team has been recognized for its passion to deliver the best service to our guests for memorable experiences during their journey with us,” he added.
Malaysia Airlines’ cabin crew are an integral part of the airline experience, providing a seamless service to passengers both on the ground in the airline’s newly refurbished Golden Lounge, which opened last week in KLIA, and in the air. The airline will also expand its popular pre-ordering ‘Chef on Call’ service, currently available in First Class, to Business Class passengers on-board the new fleet of A380 aircraft.
The awards round off an exciting month for Malaysia Airlines, having joined the elite league of carriers to fly the world’s largest and most eco-efficient airliner, with the launch of the first non-stop A380 service between KL International Airport (KLIA), Malaysia and London Heathrow on Monday 2nd July.
Malaysia Airlines' second Airbus A380 was a star of the Farnborough International Air Show, joining the daily flying show and on static display before joining commercial service from 14th August to provide a daily non-stop A380 service between London Heathrow and KLIA.
Later this year, Malaysia Airlines will join oneworld, becoming only the second carrier in the alliance to operate the A380.
