Malaysia Airlines Enhances Cantonese Cuisines on China, Hong Kong and Taiwan Flights
Subang, 31 October 2012 : Malaysia Airlines has teamed up with Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur for its passengers to enjoy authentic Cantonese style inflight gastronomic delights.
The new inflight menu, with five dishes and dessert, will be available for the month of November on the national carrier’s routes between Malaysia and the orient destinations in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Three new main dishes are offered in Business Class, while two are offered in Economy Class.
Among the newly introduced dishes, signatures of Lai Po Heen that are featured in the inflight promotion include:
- Cantonese Style Sautéed Prawns with Mushroom
- Smoked Duck Breast with Marinated Jelly Fish
- Steamed Cod Fish with Superior Soya Sauce
- Tea Leaf Smoked Chicken
- Green Tea Bavarois dessert
These dishes are specially conceptualised by a team of expert chefs from Lai Po Heen, an acclaimed Chinese restaurant in Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
Malaysia Airlines Director of Customer Services, Dato’ Mohd Salleh Tabrani said, “This is our first collaboration with this reputable hotelier to further enhance the experience of passengers travelling with us. Many classic and popular Cantonese signature dishes from Lai Po Heen have been incorporated into Malaysia Airlines’ inflight menu to give passengers a rare taste of Cantonese gastronomic delights. I’m sure our passengers will enjoy an even more memorable flying experience with this new set of meal choices.
“This collaboration is also similar to the existing partnerships we have with Taj Group of Hotels India, JW Marriott Shanghai and Grand Hilton Seoul for authentic local dishes to be served on our flights to Malaysia from India, China and Korea respectively. Malaysia Airlines aims to provide a unique and satisfying dining experience and will continuously raise the hospitality bar,” he added.

In preparing the Cantonese cuisines, stringent standards and the best ingredients are used, while also conforming to the strict Islamic dietary law and quality set along the halal benchmark.
Malaysia Airlines currently operates double daily direct services from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing (14x), Shanghai (14x), Hong Kong (14x) and daily services to Guangzhou (7x), Taipei (7x) and thrice weekly services to Kunming and Xiamen.
