Malaysia Airlines Successfully Completes 2012 Haj Flight Operations

Sepang, 29 November 2012 : Malaysia Airlines completed its 2012 Hajj operations with the arrival of the last flight MH8291 in KL International Airport today at 1.45pm.

The B747-400 flight from Madinah, Saudi Arabia with 351 passengers was the last of the 37 operated by the national carrier for the second phase of the 2012 Hajj operations.

Commenting on the successful completion, Malaysia Airlines’ Head of Hajj & Charter Services Encik Hisham Haron said, “As national flag carrier of Malaysia, we have been entrusted this duty for 32 years since 1974 and we are pleased to inform that we will be providing this service again next year. This year we managed to operate the B747 flights for Phase I to Saudi Arabia and Phase II back to Malaysia with minimal disruptions. This greatly assisted in enabling convenient movement for our pilgrims during their arrival in the Holy Land as well as reaching their final destinations after completion of their Hajj obligations.  We thank Tabung Haji for their confidence in allowing us to operate this service for Malaysians.“

For Phase I this year Malaysia Airlines operated these non-stop services to Jeddah and Madinah not only from KLIA but also from the cities of Penang, Johor Bahru, Kuala Terengganu, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.

Likewise for Phase II, the returning flights from Jeddah and Madinah were also operated into KLIA as well as to the other five cities in Malaysia.

The national also carrier deployed a dedicated team of its staff in Saudi Arabia for the duration of the Hajj season whilst other teams at its headquarters provided up-to-date support for the smooth execution of the Hajj flights during both Phases
