Malaysia Airlines' Best Deals In Sabah Now Available On MHdeals, An iPhone Augmented Reality App

Subang, 17 January 2011 : Customers on Malaysia Airlines in Sabah can now experience select and book great value flights on their iPhones using the MHdeals Destination Sabah augmented reality application.

The application will position airports around user and display the best deals from each of them. Under MHdeals Destination Sabah, customers can also get information on the unique culture, tradition and natural beauty of this amazing Malaysian Borneo holiday destination.  This application is a collaboration effort between Malaysia Airlines, Sabah Tourism Board and SITA Lab.

Introduced in conjunction with the launch of Malaysia Airlines’ direct flight from Kota Kinabalu to Perth, the airline is now offering as low as RM597 one way for those who download the new MHdeals – Sabah application. Bookings for this offer will be available until 31 January 2011.

Malaysia Airlines’ Executive Vice President Commercial Strategy, Dr Amin Khan said, “MHdeals is a free application that can be downloaded from the Apple App store to enable customers to pick up the best airline deals from nearby airports. Malaysia Airlines is the first airline to use augmented reality commercially as a new channel for ticket sales.

“MHdeals Destination Sabah is a fun, entertaining and unique way to discover Malaysia Airlines’ great deals and Sabah’s attractive destinations. It uses the GPS on the iPhone to determine the customer’s location and then displays the nearest airports from where they can access great deals. When an airport is selected, list of point of interest will be displayed. When a POI is selected, a layer of destination information will be displayed. User is then connected to Sabah Tourism mobile web via “more” link to display further information about the selected destination.

“With in-depth destination information and image galleries, this innovative application will help customers get the most out of their Sabah trip,” he added.

Currently there are three applications from Malaysia Airlines are available to be downloaded in Apple App Store. In 2009, the airline launched the hugely popular MHmobile which enables travelers to book flights and access up to date travel information while on the move. Last June, MHkiosks was introduced in KL Sentral ticket office, a world’s first for airline to utilize iPad as new channel for ticket sales. The app was later made available to download on personal iPad as MHmobile for iPad on Apps Store. In the same year, the airline launched the first app using augmented reality to purchase ticket in a fun and interactive way, another world's first for an airline.

The application will use GPS for geo-localization. The iPad and iPhone are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries.
