Baggage Fees

Your free baggage allowance depends on the conditions stated on your ticket. Beyond that, excess baggage or special baggage requirements will incur a separate charge, which differs based on your travel route.

1. Weight System - All destinations except to and from USA

a) Standard baggage allowance

The table below states the maximum weight of the checked baggage that you can take with you free of charge.

A charge at the appropriate journey rate per kilogram will apply for any baggage carried in excess of the free baggage allowance as above.

b) Excess baggage charges for international travel on Weight System

The excess baggage charges vary according to the destination or sector you are travelling to. The charge is 1.5% of the highest normal direct one-way Economy Class (in local currency) for each kilogram in excess of the free allowance.

Exceptions:

1% from Austria, Bulgaria, Israel; from Australia, New Zealand (except 1.5% from Australia, New Zealand to South West Pacific); from Europe, Middle East to Australia, New Zealand.
1.35% within Europe (except 1% from Austria, Bulgaria, Finland).

c) Excess baggage charges for Malaysian domestic travel on Weight System

2. Piece System for travel to and from USA

a) Standard baggage allowance

Any piece with a three-dimensional size exceeding 203 cm (80 inches) and/or a weight exceeding 32 kg (70 lbs) may be refused for carriage, unless an advance request has been made and approved in the Passenger Name Record (PNR) or booking reference number. For Economy Class, any baggage weighing over 23 kg (50 lbs) and up to 32 kg (lbs) will be charged USD 25/CAD 25 per piece for the first two pieces.

When a passenger has an excess of the two pieces allowed free baggage allowance within limitations (in dimension and weight for class of travel), the charge is 100% or single charge of published rate.

c) Excess baggage charges for special items in Piece System

Musical instruments(bass violas or cellos)	The musical instrument and container is subject to the applicable oversize baggage charge and must be securely packed. Portable musical instruments not exceeding 39 inches (99 cm) in length are considered one piece. In excess, normal rate per piece will be charged.
Pets	Applicable between Area 1 and 3 200 % percent of rate per piece
Bulky baggage occupying seat	75 % of applicable fare. Maximum weight not exceeding 75 kg.
Wheelchair	No charge if carried by user. Wheelchair carried by non-user can be accepted as baggage provided it is well packed and will be charged according to dimensions and weight. Power-driven wheelchair One wheelchair is carried free of charge as checked baggage.

d) Carriage of sporting equipment

Golf equipment One item of golfing equipment is defined as one or up to all of a combination of the following:One golf bag containing not more than: 14 golf clubs 12 golf balls One pair of golf shoes	One set of golfing equipment will be assessed at 50% of the applicable charge for a single piece. Additional sets will be assessed at the full applicable excess charge for a single piece.
Surfboards/Wind surfing One surfboard/windsurfing to a maximum length of 3 meters. Items over 3 meters in length shall not be accepted as checked baggage. For windsurfing, the mast, boom and sail are also included if wrapped as one item.	100% or single charge of the applicable excess baggage rate regardless of the dimension and size. Additional surfboards or sailboards or masts at the applicable excess baggage charge.
Sailboards and masts	Shall not be included in determining the free baggage allowance and shall always be subject to the excess baggage charge for a single piece.
Canoes	To be accepted strictly as cargo.
Bikes/Bicycles (Touring or Racing – non motorised) With handlebars fixed sideways and pedals removed. Accepted in place of one 62 inch (158 cm) bag. Suitably packed in a bike box (this will protect both the bike and the baggage of other passengers).	One bicycle will be included in determining the free baggage allowance and if in excess will be accepted subject to payment of the excess baggage charge for a single piece regardless of the size of bicycle. One single charge for first and additional bike. Not applicable for transportation between points in Area 1.
Fishing equipment One item of fishing equipment is defined as two rods, one reel, one landing net, one pair of fishing boots (all properly encased) and one fishing tackle box.	Items of fishing equipment will be accepted as checked baggage. Included in free baggage allowance; if exceeding, normal excess baggage rate applies (not applicable to/from Japan). Will be subject to excess baggage charge for a single piece (applicable to/from Japan).
Archery equipment Archery equipment is defined as one or a combination of the following: One bow One quiver containing arrows A maintenance kit	Included in free baggage allowance; if exceeding, normal excess baggage rate applies.
Bowling equipment One item of bowling equipment is defined as one bowling bag, one or two bowling balls and one pair of bowling shoes.	Items of bowling equipment will be accepted as checked baggage. Will be included in determining free baggage allowance; if exceeding, each item will be subject to excess baggage rate for asingle piece (not applicable to/from Japan). One item of bowling equipment (bag, one bowling ball and a pair of shoes) will be subject to excess baggage rate for a single piece (applicable to/from Japan).
Hunting equipment	Included in free baggage allowance; if exceeding, normal excess baggage rate applies.
Parachutes Hang gliders will only be accepted if they are within the maximum dimensions of 2.5m x 1.00m x 0.80m (98in x 39in x 31in).	Included in free baggage allowance; if exceeding, normal excess baggage rate applies. Sport parachutes are accepted under the rules and procedures for carry-on baggage provided no items classified as dangerous goods (such as pressurized oxygen cylinders) are included.
Sporting firearms and ammunition One item of shooting equipment is defined as: One rifle case containing not more than two rifles, with or without scopes, 11 pounds of ammunitions, one shooting mat, noise suppressors and small rifle tools; or Two shotguns and two shotgun cases and 11 pounds of ammunitions; or One pistol case	Included in free baggage allowance (subject to correct transportation and safety procedure being followed). Sporting firearms will be included in determining free baggage allowance (when in piece) whether or not presented as a single piece (not applicable to/from Japan). Sporting firearms are not permitted except target pistols to be used at international athletic meetings (applicable to/from Japan).
Scuba Diving Equipment One item of scuba diving equipment is defined as: One scuba tank (empty), One scuba regulator, One tank harness, One tank pressure gauge, One mask, Two fins, One snorkel, One knife, One spear gun and One safety vest	Items of scuba diving equipment will not be included in determining the free baggage allowance. The equipment will always be subject to the excess baggage rate for a single piece whether or not presented as a single piece. Regardless of actual dimensions the equipment will be considered to be one piece of a baggage whose outside linear dimension are 62 inches. 100 % or single charge of the applicable excess baggage rate. Applicable for travel on MH services between the USA/Canada and Malaysia only. One item of scuba diving equipment will be included in determining the free baggage allowance. If exceeding, will be assessed 50% of the applicable rate for a single piece. Additional sets will be assessed the full applicable excess baggage rate for a single piece.
Snow/Water Skiing Equipment One item of skiing equipment consists of: One pair of skis, one pair of ski poles, one pair of boots, or One snowboard, one pair of boots, or One pair of standard water skis or one slalom water ski.	If exceeding the free baggage allowance, one set of skiing equipment will be charged 33% of the applicable excess baggage rate Normal excess baggage rate applies for any additional set.
Musical Instrument Portable musical instruments not exceeding 39 inches (99 cm) in length.	Included in free baggage allowance; if exceeding, normal excess baggage rate applies

Seat Selection

With Favourite Spot, Economy Class customers have the option of selecting their preferred seat in advance for a nominal fee. This seat selection facility may be done during online booking or through Manage My Booking. However, you can still select your seat for free 48 hours before departure with web check-in.

Supplemental Oxygen

MEDA Oxygen Kit Charges

A service fee is chargeable if you request for a medical oxygen kit for the following routes:

MEDA Oxygen Kit Charges in the United Kingdom

A service fee is chargeable if you request for a medical oxygen kit for non-continuous use onboard on journeys departing from United Kingdom. The charges are as follows:

Note

If the request for stopover is made outside United Kingdom for travel ex-UK, the oxygen kit will be requested and the payment will be collected outside the UK at the point where the stopover was made.
