Manila

Historical capital of the Pearl of the Orient

Take a flight into this city and begin your journey at the ultimate starting point - Kilometre Zero in Luneta where the Rizal monument stands. Then head to Intramuros, the ‘city within the walls’ and experience the Spanish colonial past from the 16th century. Nearby is China Town, better known as Binondo, where you can visit the church of San Lorenzo Ruiz, the first Filipino saint. Next, head west and take a tour of the famous Malacaňang Palace, the official residence of the nation's President.

For something spiritually uplifting, swing by Quiapo, home to the Black Nazarene, the statue famed for many miraculous acts. Don't forget to stop and admire the sunset at the Manila Bay for a good end to the day. A trip to Manila wouldn't be complete without a walk around the Makati business district, where the trendiest shopping and dining places can be found, and the entertainment and nightlife are second to none. For a uniquely Filipino experience, ride around Manila in its colourful jeepneys.
